Septic tanks are not always the most pleasant thing to think about, but if you neglect them too long, you can have a real problem. Sometimes your septic tank may just need to be pumped, and other times it should be replaced. Here are a few things that will let you know if it is time to replace your septic tank:

1.Continuous Tank Problems. Though this may be obvious, you should consider getting your tank replaced if there is a reoccurring issue. Your tank may be overflowing, or the contents may not be broken down correctly. If this happens, it is better to just replace the tank than to try and fix it.

2.Water puddles. If a septic tank is working properly, there should be no reason for standing water in your yard. The water is likely sewage, so it probably will smell bad and be easy to catch. These septic puddles can be a health concern, so you want to get a professional in as soon as possible to drain and replace your septic tank.

3.Backup. If you can tell your pipes are clogged and draining slowly, it’s good to act sooner rather than later. If you don’t, it can get to the point where sewage backup can make its way into your home. If that has already happened, it is definitely time to get a new tank.
