HOOT calls it the first ‘complete’ septic tank because it essentially works just like a small municipal treatment plant. Patented by Hoot, it is a full 5-stage, 1-piece waste water treatment system.
The design incorporates 4 components:
The first component, the pre-treatment tank, starts decomposing the influent anaerobically. It also holds anything non-biodegradable that’s inadvertently added. The heart of this activated sludge sewage system – the aeration chamber – introduces oxygen into the sewage via a pump. The aeration mixes the sewage organic material with the bacterial population to enable the bacteria to attack the organic matter.
Active sludge settlement in the final clarifier chamber is again introduced to the aeration chamber via sewage movement. As the solids settle in the clarifier, an odorless, clear effluent rises. This passes through the chlorinator for final disinfection (where required). Then, the holding tank stores the effluent for discharge through the selected method of disposal.
