Red Alert: Drain Field System Failure!

Septic Services LakelandPosted bySeptic Services LakelandAugust 20th, 2021

Your septic system has failed! Presumably, that’s why you are reading this. The toilets won’t flush, the drains won’t drain, and water has backed up into the shower. This means wastewater is backing up from the tank through the main drain and into your home. It’s going the wrong way! Or maybe you’ve got untreated effluent surfacing on the ground. Here, we’ll discuss the various types of septic failures.

Red Alert: Drain Field System Failure! One of more of the following might have occurred:

  • Either the outlet or inlet tee is broken or blocked.
  • The sewage pipe between the tank and your house is broken or blocked.
  • The line between the drain field and the tank is broken or blocked.
  • The tank has collapsed or it’s blocked with solids.
  • If your system has a pump, there may be a mechanical or electrical failure.
  • The drain field is completely or partially clogged with roots or solids.
  • The drain field is flooded.

You can be even more suspicious about the drain field if:

  • The septic tank is flooded.
  • Problems persist, even though the tank has been recently pumped.
  • Plumbing becomes sluggish over time, during wet months, or when it’s used heavily.
  • There are persistent wet spots or odors over the field.

Drain field issues are the most costly and serious type of septic system failure. Loose connections can be fixed, pipe blockages can be removed, and usually, a faulty tank can be repaired. However, if a drain field is clogged, it will have to be replaced – an expensive and disruptive procedure. That’s why it is critical to have your septic system professionally inspected every few years to prevent drain field disasters.
