How Often Is Septic Pumping Needed for My Hoot System?

Septic Services LakelandPosted bySeptic Services LakelandAugust 20th, 2021

The level of household usage is what determines the frequency of septic pumping. As with all septic tanks, periodic pumping keeps a Hoot system healthy and ensures that sewage entering it is treated properly.

The trash chamber will develop a layer of sludge at the bottom and a layer of scum on the surface. At Southeastern Septic LLC in Lakeland, Florida, we recommend septic pumping and cleaning when the sludge and scum (combined) in the chamber exceeds 25% of the trash chamber’s total capacity.

A Hoot trash chamber is approximately 52 inches high and holds 520 gallons. When the chamber’s solids exceed 15 inches (combined), the system should be pumped. See this diagram:

The capacity of the processing chamber is about 920 gallons. About one-third of the contents (SOS 300 gallons) should be removed when the trash chamber is being pumped. You can expect approximately 1,000 to 1,100 gallons to be pumped from a Hoot septic system.

Periodic septic pumping of solids is critical in ensuring that there is enough space in the trash chamber for the storage of liquids before they are passed into the processing chamber. Furthermore, if there is an excessive buildup of solids, the septic system might ‘pass’ them into the processing chamber. If this happens, the processing chamber may also need to be pumped.

Using a garbage disposal too much can dramatically increase the buildup of scum and sludge in the tank, which may result in more frequent pumping. Restricting the use of a garbage disposal will reduce the amount of solids and grease that enter the system.
